The
big news at PSESD is that Superintendent Dr. Monte L. Bridges will be
awarded the Justice A. Prentice Award by AESA during the national conference
in December. The PSESD Board and AESD superintendents and board members
nominated Monte for the prestigious leadership honor. We are all very
proud!
Also receiving national attention is one of PSESD’s programs. PathNet:
A Networked Reengagement System, is a dropout reengagement initiative
of Puget Sound ESD that has been adopted as a model for statewide implementation.
PathNet is currently working with King County Juvenile Court’s Probation
Division to reengage youth in the county. The pilot program targets youth
on probation who are at moderate to high-risk to reoffend and have dropped
out of school.
The PathNet model creates connections between school districts and community
colleges, technical schools and other organizations. Youth then take part
in basic skills remediation, GED preparation, work and college readiness
classes, and high school credit recovery options. While youth are participating
in the program, they are guided by a connection coordinator, who helps
navigate the multiple systems and pathways to educational and vocational
success.
The PathNet model was used to inform legislation, ESSHB 1418, which was
signed into law in March of 2010. PSESD’s Dr. Mick Moore and Dr.
Kelly Goodsell are working to bring the model to school districts throughout
the state.
